Designer needs to understand life and materials. In his work designer must question things, be foolishly brave and if needed, humble. My work is guided by curiosity, what happens if I stick my tongue in a wall socket? Through experimenting you often find something valuable.
For me making a chair is sculpting.
I often work by making models of the final materials in 1:1 scale. It is not until by working with these models that I find the final form for the product. The most important thing in a chair is to find a good sitting position and to realize it in a controlled and aesthetically pleasing manner.
